Parquet Repair in HDB Flats: What Singapore Homeowners Should Know
A large share of the repair calls we get are from HDB flats with their original parquet still in place — often from the 1980s or 90s. It's some of the most rewarding repair work we do, and also some of the trickiest, for reasons specific to older HDB flooring.
Original species are often no longer sold
Chengal and older Merbau cuts common in flats from this era aren't milled in the same profiles today. Matching them usually means sourcing reclaimed timber or accepting a very close, rather than exact, match — we always show you the proposed match before proceeding.
Decades of wear make colour-matching harder
Thirty-plus years of sunlight and foot traffic shift a floor's colour unevenly across the room. A replacement block that matches perfectly on day one can look slightly different a year later as it ages at a different rate — we factor this into the stain and finish we use.
Renovation history complicates the job
Many HDB flats have had at least one prior renovation — sometimes parquet laid over parquet, or a patch repair done with mismatched timber. We check what's actually underneath before quoting, since it changes both scope and cost.
It's almost always cheaper than you'd expect
Because the damage in HDB flats is usually concentrated — a doorway, a window sill, a bathroom threshold — rather than spread across the whole flat, the actual repair is often smaller in scope than homeowners assume when they first call.
If you've got original parquet in an older HDB flat and have been putting off dealing with a damaged patch because you assumed it meant ripping the whole floor out, it's worth getting an actual assessment first — our FAQ page covers more of the questions HDB owners tend to ask.
